Frequently Asked Questions

Have you found your way here and are now wondering what a session would be like? Here’s some answers to a few commonly asked questions, and please know that if you don’t see your question here, the door is open for you to ask!

What kind of clients find their way to Queen City Healing Arts?

I find all my clients tend to have one thing in common: they are all people who are choosing change. Sometimes, that means choosing to change old postures, old patterns, & old pains. Sometimes, that means choosing to change by opening up to something new. Sometimes, it means choosing to change by speaking truth, honoring experience, or stepping into what lies ahead. Often, it means admitting there are things they don’t quite know - that their old patterns have deeper roots, and that the time has come to understand them(selves) better. It means they have recognized there are things they are ready to let go of, and are seeking the space to do just that.

And always, it means they are brave, even if they don’t yet see it for themselves, because choosing change is always brave. And you, my friend, are brave.

What should I expect for my initial in-person session?

A lot of my new clients arrive for their first session and let me know that they don’t know exactly what type of help that they need, but they do know they need help, and they do know that this is the place they feel called to be.

When you arrive, we start with conversation. I give you the opportunity to open up, and share with me more about who you are & how you are feeling. And it’s through this getting-to-know-each-other that I’m able to recognize what tools will be most helpful for our time together.

If the tools that will best serve you are bodywork & massage therapy, then I’ll give you the privacy you need to undress to your comfort level & get safe and cozy beneath the blankets of the massage table. If the tools that will best serve you are craniosacral therapy or guided meditation, then we’ll have you hop up onto the table fully clothed, and we’ll utilize light touch and kind words to help you sink deeper into the truth of who you are. If what you need is a long, heartfelt conversation, then we may do exactly that, and keep our words flowing as you open up to more and more of your own experience. If we need to go outside and walk in the sunlight, we’ll do that, too! We’ll serve you the medicine you need, in whatever form it may take.

Whatever work takes place and whatever tools we utilize, know that the work you receive is exactly what you are ready for. And that’s why you’re here - because you are ready.

What is different about virtual sessions? Will the impact be the same as if I am in-person?

I have grown to love & appreciate virtual sessions ever since I began offering them! The only difference is that we aren’t physically occupying the same space.

In the same way that in-person sessions open with a conversation, our virtual sessions together open with acknowledging who you are & how you’re doing. We’ll talk about what’s brought you here, and I’ll hold the space for you to speak frankly about what you’re going through.

In virtual sessions, we utilize guided meditations that are customized and often channeled in just for you and just for that moment. These meditations can and do address physical pains, emotional troubles, and spiritual questions. It’s incredible the kind of change you can bring about by slowing down, honoring your breath, and allowing your awareness to bring you into the heart of your body’s own inner wisdom.

That’s where we go - right into the heart of you - and we give you the opportunity to gain insight and understanding, as well as finding clarity for what you need to know. Virtual sessions are a beautiful opportunity to learn that distance is not a barrier to healing, and that the true healer here is you.

What happens after our initial session?

After we get to know each other, we work together to decide what will serve you best moving forward. Now, that will look different for everyone, but for most people it means taking the time to integrate what comes through in the session, as well as scheduling a follow-up session for a few weeks down the road.

If you are seeking to gain lasting change with your physical body, then we’ll discuss getting you on a regular schedule that best suits your calendar and your budget so we can make cumulative progress towards your wellness goals. If you are seeking to delve deeper into consciousness & spiritual practices, we’ll discuss the tools you can use at home as well as the ways this space here can continue to serve you. Either way, we chart a course forward so you can keep healing, changing, and discovering more about who you are!

What is the difference between bodywork and soulwork?

I do not believe there is a difference between helping you heal your body & helping you know your soul. The bodywork I serve can be considered as a bridge into understanding deeper aspects of who you are. Yes, your body may hurt. Maybe your body has hurt for a long time. Here, we take the time to ask, “why?

As we physically work to release the tensions in the tissues through massage therapy, we also utilize the guidance of craniosacral therapy & the intuitive power of energy medicine to work deeper. This gentle, curious exploration into Self is an opportunity to experience both physical relief as well as emotional support and spiritual development.

One of the most insightful pieces of information I’ve learned over the years is that our issues are in our tissues. When we work through the knots of our minds as well as the knots of our muscles, we leave with a better insight into what’s made us who we are, as well as the lovely, restorative experience of relaxation that massage therapy gifts us.

Can I still sign up for a session if I’m not a particularly spiritual person? What if I don’t have a spiritual practice, or even know what “spirituality” means to me?

Yes. If you know there’s a voice in you that says this may be the space to help you, know that door here is open for you. If you don’t know if what you need is to unload your thoughts for an hour or take a long, restful nap while receiving bodywork, that’s fine! We’ll discover what will serve you best once you walk in the door.

What matters here is taking care of yourself. A lot of the time, that means trying something new. And that something new may mean doing something outside of your comfort zone. But it’s when we step outside of our comfort zone that real change & self-discovery take place. And that’s what this space is for more than anything else.

If I do know that all I need is a massage, is that okay? Do we have to dive deeper than that?

Of course that is okay! And of course we can provide that. =) After all, I’ve been a licensed massage therapist for longer than I’ve been anything else, and it’s one of my greatest joys helping people unwind their tissues. If what you need is a quiet hour to tend to your body, that’s exactly what you’ll receive.

We don’t ever have to go any deeper than you are comfortable going. I respect you for exactly where you’re at, and honor the boundaries you have in place. Now, over time, we’ll get to know each other, and those boundaries may shift as you feel more comfortable or get more curious. And that’s perfectly okay, too.

I have longstanding relationships with clients who solely seek bodywork & massage therapy, and they experience the transformative, impactful nature of healing just as much as my clients who are here for purely spiritual purposes.

It’s all good. It’s all the same. And it’s all helpful, and powerful, and true. Just show up as you are, and you’ll be taken care of.

Is your office space accessible for people with limited mobility or those in wheelchairs? What about accessibility for those with limited financial means?

The office space here in Denver is wheelchair accessible! There is also an accessible bathroom, as well as a waiting area in case you arrive early or need to wait afterwards for transportation. It is also a comfortable & quiet place for any friend or family member who may need to bring you to/from your appointment.

When it comes to financial accessibility, please know I have a sliding scale available for those in need. I’m always willing to work with your current means, which includes being open to the possibility of trade. If these options are still inaccessible to you, I offer biweekly community meditation & journeywork classes, which are donation-based and welcome to all. This is one way I offer accessible medicine for the community, and these classes are a wonderful way to experience my work and gain helpful benefit without the need to invest in a private session.

If I’m curious, am I really ready?

Yes. =)
